The Brave Knight Raises $40K at Inaugural Event
The Team Julian Foundation is pleased to announce that the Inaugural Brave Knight: Courage for Cures benefit was a huge success on Saturday, Nov. 26.
The cocktail benefit, held at The Townsend Hotel, hosted nearly 275 people and raised $40,000 in proceeds – twice what organizers had targeted – that will go directly to critical research dedicated to childhood cancer, specifically for the deadliest of brain tumors, brain stem gliomas.
The evening was led by Team Julian Foundation co-founders Jeremy Fife and Steve Millman, and was highlighted by a poignant speech by Julian’s father, Brad Boivin, followed by notes on the need for further research by Dr. Jeffrey Taub, director of pediatric oncology at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit.
Special thanks to the event’s sponsors, The Townsend Hotel, Ameriprise, All State and LSG Financial for supporting our first effort.
And an enormous thanks to all those who helped us pull together a stellar auction featuring 75 items and travel packages from as far as California and New York in just three months.
“We are thrilled with the success of our first event,” said Nettie Boivin. “It was such a special night to see so many show up to fight with us for kids and families battling childhood cancer – all in the spirit of Julian’s courage he inspired in us.”
The Team Julian Foundation intends to make this an annual event on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend as a tribute to the anniversary of Julian’s diagnosis of a brain stem glioma on Nov. 29, 2010.
